The Use of Active Techniques, Movement, Breath, and Expression in Bioenergetic Analysis.

Objectives

This workshop examines the ethical issues raised when therapists conducting a psychodynamic psychotherapy make use of somatically-based methods and techniques to advance the therapeutic work. This includes the use of breathing techniques, grounding and expressive movement.

1. Participants will identify and discuss the clinical use of active techniques. Including boundary issues, structure of the therapeutic space, and advisability of the use of these methods.

2. Participants will identify transference considerations in the use of these methods, including benefits and limitations of these methods in supporting the emergence and working through of transference dynamics in the therapeutic relationship.

3. Participants will identify the ethical issues raised by this work in clinical work through discussion of case material, including material from their own practices.

4. Participants will familiarize themselves with different perspectives on ethical issues in the use of active techniques taken from the point of view of different disciplines and therapeutic methodologies.

Covid: As the workshop will be in person, proof of vaccination or negative test results within the past 24 hours are required.
